Malayalam typing: write Malayalam with English letters
Type the way a word sounds — namaskaram, veedu, nandi — and it turns into Malayalam script as you type. Known words are matched against this dictionary, so common vocabulary comes out with correct spelling rather than a rough guess.
How it works
Each word you type is looked up in the dictionary first. If it is a word this site knows, you get the spelling exactly as it appears in the dictionary entry. If it is a name, a loanword or an inflected form, letter rules take over and build the Malayalam syllables from your spelling.
Spelling conventions
| You type | You get | Example |
|---|---|---|
| a, aa | അ, ആ | amma → അമ്മ |
| i, ee | ഇ, ഈ | veedu → വീട് |
| u, oo | ഉ, ഊ | pookkal → പൂക്കൾ |
| th / t | ത / ട | thala → തല, kutti → കുട്ടി |
| zh | ഴ | vazhi → വഴി |
| ll, rr | ള, റ | pallu → പള്ളു |
| nj, ng | ഞ, ങ | njan → ഞാൻ |
| double letter | gemination | kk, pp, tt, mm |
Punctuation, digits and English words you leave in Latin letters stay as they are, so you can mix both scripts in one line.
